Cryptostylis leptochila, Oberon, NSW

There are 20 species worldwide of the wonderfully bizarre Tongue Orchids (genus Cryptostylis) of which 5 occur in Australia. The species on this page is commonly called the Small Tongue Orchid.

Ichneumonid wasp, pollinator of Cryptostylis sp., Oberon, NSW

All the Australian species are pollinated by pseudocopulation by the same species of ichneumonid wasp, yet according to Bishop (2000) hybrids have never been found.
