The Gimp- free image manipulation software that has many of the functions of its competitors like Photoshop and Paintshop Pro.

Rawshooter- Software that does an excellent job of speeding up the workflow from raw image to usable image. Comes in 2 forms- Essential (which is free) and Premium (which is a reasonable price). Pixmantec has been bought out by Adobe. It is to be hoped that their new product Adobe Lightroom will be as functional as Rawshooter.

Neat Image- The best software that I've used for reducing digital image noise. Comes in a free version (that can only process jpegs) and a reasonably priced version that is more flexible.
