| Melaleuca- south-west wilderness- page 1 | ||||
Melaleuca is a locality in south-west Tasmania, deep within the south-west Wilderness area of Tasmania. Apart from being a wild and remote place accessible by only plane, boat or foot it is one of only two places in the world where the extremely rare Orange-bellied Parrot breeds. Early in 2008 I took a flight over to Melaleuca from Hobart and spent a few days photographing birds in the area. Apart from the OBP's, it is a wonderful place to see Ground Parrots, Southern Emu-wrens, Striated Fieldwrens and Beautiful Firetails.
