  Enderby Island

Enderby Island lies to the north-east of the main Auckland Island. While cattle and rabbits have no doubt had a major impact on the island's vegetation and fauna in the past, it is currently free of introduced animals, and the resultant growth ov vegetation is tremendous.

Three bird species are particularly common and have little fear of people. These are the Auckland Islands Pipit, Auckland Islands Tomtit and Auckland Islands Dotterel. Enderby Island is one of the few places where it is permitted to look for the New Zealand Snipe. The snipe and the dotterel break the rules by not migrating long distances like most other wader species. It is also one of the main breeding sites for the Hooker's Sea Lion.
