The Snares |
||||
|
The Snares are a small set of islands (243 hectares) just over 200 km south-west of Bluff (South Island, NZ). The islands are free of introduced predators. Landing of tourist vessels is not permitted. It is possible though to get close to shore via Naiads or Zodiacs. The Snares are too small to show up on Google Earth however you can see where they are located on this map. It has some interesting fauna including Subantarctic Snipe, Snares Crested Penguin, endemic subspecies of Tomtit and Fernbird and endemic types of amphipods (very difficult to detect using binoculars in a rolling rubber boat). |
